Pseudolithoxus cf. anthrax (L235)

Presumably Pseudolithoxus anthrax acquired on 16/03/2020 from Pier Aquatics, Wigan, UK. According to the species description by Armbruster & Provenzano (2000: Four new species of the suckermouth armoured catfish genus Lasiancistrus (Loricariidae: Ancistrinae). Ichthyological Exploration of Freshwaters 11, 241-254.) these fishes actually have too ‘short’ pectoral fins and should be rather elongated overall. This original paper also mentions a species of Pseudolithoxus sp. which, according to its measurements, should be much more similar to the animals shown here. However, as Pseudolithoxus anthrax is also shown in one of the following publications, which correspond quite closely to the animals here (Lujan & Birindelli, 2011: A new distinctively banded species of Pseudolithoxus (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) from the upper Orinoco River. Zootaxa, 38-46.), I will stick with Pseudolithoxus cf. anthrax for the time being. Beautiful animals in any case!
