Our Central European water often differs significantly from tropical waters in its composition. However, it must be taken into account that there is no such thing as Central European water, but that there are sometimes considerable differences in hardness and composition depending on the region. In general, however, it can be said that Central European waters have an increased proportion of calcium and magnesium, while potassium is very often only present in small quantities. Trace elements required by the plants are very often not present in tap water or only in traces, which are quickly consumed by the aquatic plants in the aquarium.
For this reason, an additional supply of the required trace elements will be necessary in planted aquariums in order to achieve a strong, healthy plant growth and at the same time prevent the unpleasant occurrence of algae.
