Hypancistrus sp (L136)

In 2022, I acquired a large number of Hypancistrus sp. L 136 – the Demini angelfish – from Julien Preuß. As the German name suggests, this species, which at first glance resembles the L 262, comes from the Rio Demini, a river in the middle Rio Negro catchment area. The species has caused a sensation in recent years, similar to what we know from the various breeding lines of L 236, for example, mainly because animals with very large and bright spots were bred through selection with subsequent offspring of the selection lines. These selection lines are often labelled with the classification levels a, b and c. Our friend Timo Schellenberg in particular has selected wonderful animals from breeding line c.

Julien’s offspring ultimately also come from the original animals from which Timo has built up his breeding lines. I selected the breeding animals in my group from Julien’s large group of animals, and they are more likely to be classified as Hypancistrus sp. L 136a and especially b. As with all Hypancistrus, breeding is easy.
