Pseudohemiodon apithanos ‘real’
In June 2017, I got two adults with a size of around 17-20 cm.
By the end of September he had a clutch of eggs in his mouth, but I only realised this when the young were already starting to hatch. He kept it a really good secret. When they hatched they were already surprisingly large (3 days after hatching, 19.7 ± 0.9 mm, min 18 mm, max 21 mm).
After just over 3 weeks I released the Pseudhemiodon apithanos ‘real’ juveniles from the EHK, everything worked perfectly, no losses. The 29 juveniles were then moved to an open tank and immediately showed a tendency to burrow in…, looks funny with these tiny creatures.
The size of the juveniles is now 36.6 ± 1.8 mm TL (min 33 mm, max 40 mm), so there is only a slight tendency for the size cohort to grow apart, so they all seem to have had enough food. The growth is quite decent, from my first measurement until today 25 days after hatching an average growth of 0.77 mm/day.
